BCB Graduate Student Amjad Dabi (Dan Schrider Lab) publishes paper in Genetics.
Simulation has become a cornerstone of population genetic research. However, simulating large populations is extremely computationally demanding. To circumvent this problem, researchers commonly use a simple approximation to simulate smaller populations that mimic the dynamics of large populations. Amjad’s paper reveals the (sometimes severe) bias introduced by this approximation, and proposes a simple and effective strategy to mitigate it.
