Congratulations to Isai Salas Gonzalez (Jeff Dangl Lab) who’s paper titled “Genomic features of bacterial adaptation to plants” was recently published in Nature Genetics on December 18. In the article Isai mined thousands of bacterial genomes using phylogenomic and statistical approaches to find novel candidate genes and operons that may enable bacteria to interact with plants. This allowed the ability to identify and experimentally test two traits that exhibited a deficient plant interaction phenotype when assayed. The full analysis derived from this research contains thousands of novel genes ready to be experimentally assayed by their and other groups interested in the plant-bacteria interaction.
